An Iowa native whose first job was in YMCA work, 1912-17 … started teaching and coaching career at Gary in ‘18 … served as athletic director and basketball coach at Horace Mann H. S. for 12 years … coached the school’s basketball team for 40 years … was a pioneer in the pivot play, and with the jump-shot technique … early president of Indiana High School Coaches Assn … officiated in more than 1,000 high school basketball games … organizer and president of state’s first assn of high school basketball officials … introduced and used the 1st white basketball shoes in the state…after retiring from education, worked as a radio sports commentator, working 452 high school and college football and basketball games. Deceased.
