A 2-year All-State selection at Evansville Bosse, where he graduated in 1945 … led his team to back-to-back state titles in ‘44 and ‘45 … named to each all-tourney team along the way … named to Indiana all-star team … a 4-year varsity performer at Purdue University … captained team as a senior … twice led Boilermakers in rebounding … twice the team’s number-three scorer … moved on to 4 seasons with the highly successful Caterpillar AAU team … started each of those seasons, but a job transfer forced him to leave the team just before it won the gold medal in the ‘52 Olympics.
