2017 Women’s Center Circle Officials Award Winners Named

(NEW CASTLE) – The Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame recognizes two men for their contribution as high school girls basketball officials as the 2017 Women’s Center Circle Officials Award winners.

Mike Alford of Cambridge City and Ed Scahill of New Palestine will be acknowledged for their officiating careers.

Mike Alford is a 1971 graduate of Cambridge City Lincoln High School in Wayne County.  At Lincoln, he was a three-year all-conference basketball player and named to the all-sectional team twice.  In the course of his officiating career, he worked 40 girls sectionals, 33 regionals, 12 semi-states and the 2011 state finals.  A Past President of the Eastern Indiana Officials Association and 10-year clinician, he has been involved in his church and Kiwanis Club.  Employed with Centerville-Abington Schools in Centerville, Indiana, he married the former Nancy Allen and has two children, Lisa and Kelli.  He resides in Dublin.

Ed Scahill is a 1966 graduate of Indianapolis Arsenal Tech High School, where he was a varsity baseball player.  He also played baseball at Wabash College.  During his high school officiating career, he worked 15 girls sectionals, 12 regionals, six semi-states and two state finals in 1994 and 1997, in addition to numerous County, City and Hall of Fame Classic tournaments.  A Past President and board member with the Indiana Officials Association, he also worked in rules interpretation and as a clinician.  Employed with Huntington National Bank, he is married to the former Pam Cooper and has three children, Tammy, Jason and Jon.  He resides in New Palestine.

Center Circle Officials Award winners will be honored at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame’s 16th Annual Women’s Banquet on Saturday, April 29, 2017.
