All-State in 1940 when he led Fort Wayne Southside team to Final Four…earned varsity letters in both basketball and football…played 3 years at Butler, though career was interrupted by World War II…began a lengthy and successful coaching career at Pinell High School in ’48…after a short stop at Center Grove, he coached Warren Central to Marion County tourney championship…in ’54 moved to Southport High School where he served as coach, teacher and then asst. principal before retiring in 1970. Marion County tourney championships notched 250 career victories, a .667 clip sectional titles at Southport regional crown in ’57 losing to eventual state runner-up Crispus Attucks in the semi-state final…twice named South Central Conference Coach of the Year.
