Dick was a 4-year varsity performer at Otterbein High School where he led the Red Devils in scoring his final 2 campaigns. He was named outstanding freshman scholar at Indiana State in 1950. For the next three seasons, ‘Iron Man’ started every game for Coach John Longfellow’s Sycamores. He was 3-time Indiana College Conference All-Star. After his sophomore year, he played on the U.S. team that won the gold in the 1951 Pan Am Games. He played professionally for the Knicks and then the Pistons before an injury ended his career. He returned to Benton County to coach Oxford for 10 years, then became principal of the new Benton Central school, later serving as athletic director.
