From Merrillville High School to the Air Force Academy where he played four seasons, was team captain and leading scorer his senior year, graduated with bachelors degree in Soviet Studies and served five years in the Air Force, played basketball with the U.S. Armed Forces Team, in 1972 was named captain of the Armed Forces Team, which won the AAU championship, this earned him an invitation to the 1972 U.S. Olympic team training camp,  began coaching career as an assistant at the Air Force Academy in 1973, in 1972 was named head coach of Pomona-Pitzer’s men’s basketball team, began pro coaching career in 1987, coached the Golden State Warriors before taking over the San Antonio Spurs where he has had 4 NBA championships.
