A 3-sport athlete at New Castle High School … played football and basketball at Purdue … came to Muncie Central High School right after college, charged with building school’s basketball program … coached 13 season … won state title in his first season there, 1928 … lost in finals 2 years later to Washington, then returned in ’31 to take championship again … under his tutelage, Central lost only 2 sectionals … 7 regional championships … overall record 263-101 … left coaching in 1940 to enter private business.
