A 4-sport athlete at Crawfordsville High School, graduating in 1908 … took his basketball skills to Notre Dame … played center on team that won 50 of 52 games, both losses being to professinal teams … played football for Notre Dame’s ’09 Western Conference champs … Walter Camp All-American that year … moved on to Princeton for final 2 years … All-American in ’11 and ’12, playing fullback and tackle … became Purdue’s basketball coach the next year … after service in World War I, coached basketball, football and track at Wabash College … his “Wonder Five” teams lost only 3 games in ’22 and one in ’25 … latter unit was proclaimed national champs … Wabash athletic director 1919 to ’47, then again ’61-’63.
