3-yr starter at Columbus…’Bird’ was a forward as sophomore, then scored 286 points as a junior center…moved to guard senior year, scoring 370 points…led conference in scoring…set Columbus gym single-game scoring record…set sectional single game record junior season…2-time all conference…All-State recognition…attended Tulane but transferred to Cincinnati, sitting out sophomore season…as junior, started for ’50 Bearcats. Teammates included Hall of Famers Barney Scott, Marvin Wood and Bill Shepherd.
