1985 Marion Team

Marion, undefeated and ranked number one all season, became the sixth school in the 75-year history of the event to win the championship, with an undefeated record (29-0).

Coach Green was the first coach ever to coach two undefeated state champions (1969, 1985).  He also was one of only four coaches in Indiana to win four state titles.

The 1985 championship game (Marion vs. Richmond) was the fifth time the North Central Conference had both teams in the finals. But Marion started strong to take a commanding lead with an explosive first quarter, going ahead 20 to 8, then had control the rest of the way for a convincing 74-67 victory and the championship before a sell-out crowd of 17,490 fans.
