A two-sport athlete for Clay Township High School at Amo…after graduating in 1916, he played basketball and track at Indiana University…three-time all-Big 10…team captain as a junior…played 3 years with semi-pro teams…coached 17 years at Angola, Terre Haute Wiley, Rushville and Bloomington high schools…coached 3 teams to state final…took over Ball State basketball coaching reigns in ’38.
