Didn’t participate in sports at Evansville Central because he lived too far from school and because ‘I was smaller than the boys on the squad’…played freshman basketball at Evansville College…started teaching next year, spending 18 yrs in elementary education…got his first opportunity as a varsity coach at age of 40…coached Evansville Bosse in ’47, winning 14 of first 16 games and gaining state’s number-one ranking…coached Evansville Reitz a year later, losing by a point to Evansville.
