Player, coach and part-owner of Indianapolis Olympians professional team…Coached at Eaton and Jeffersonville High Schools with 118-54 record; also Frankfort, KY and Palatka, FL…3-year varsity at Yorktown HS … 3 times all-sectional and all- county … also baseball standout, pitching 2 championship games with a broken arm – played at Kentucky a year before entering Army Air Corps … after his plane was shot down, spent 16 months as German POW … lauded for uncanny backward passes and ball-handling techniques, reputedly developed practicing with volleyball in POW camp. He returned to Kentucky after the war to become a key part of the “Fabulous Five”…two NCAA championships, an NIT championship…Olympic gold medalist in 1948.
