George Sobek

Led Hammond High to the state finals in 1938, his senior season…captained team that was runner-up to Fort Wayne South Side…All-State…a team leader for 3 seasons…also lettered in baseball…a 3-yr regular at Notre Dame Univ… All-American as senior in ’42…played for Coach Tony Hinkle at Great Lakes Naval Training Center…after the war, played professional basketball with Indianapolis Kautskys, Toledo Jeeps and Sheboygan Redskins…player-coach of Hammond Bucaneers…also played professional baseball in the Chicago White Sox organization…managed for the Sox, and continued long association with that team…officiated Big Ten basketball 4 years.
