All-Conference, All-Sectional, All-Regional, All-Semistate, and All-State teams in his senior year. He then attended Indiana University where he played four years of varsity ball and was a member and a great leader on the team that won the NCAA championship in 1953. Red was working in the Research Department of the United States Bureau of Government Standards in Washington, D.C. when he was chosen as a member of the 1974 Silver Anniversary Team. He earned a PH. D in chemistry and was scientist at U.S. National Bureau of Standards for 30 years. Received Department of Commerce Gold Medal for Outstanding Scientific Achievement in 1979.
