Leroy Compton

Class president and team captain as senior at Franklin Twp…played 2 yrs of basketball and 3 yrs of baseball for Tony Hinkle at Butler earned a tryout with Pittsburgh Pirates organization but opted for career in education…coached 2 yrs at Moral Twp, 7 at Bluffton, 5 at Shelbyville and 3 at Manualcoached Hall of Famer Gary Long at Shelbyville in ’57 moved to Oak Park, IL, in 1964, eventually became athletic director at famed Proviso West (enrollment 8400), supervising 98 coaches and 1,000 contests a year. He returned to Indianapolis in 1976 as Director of Athletics for IPS. He retired in 1985. A Hall of Fame Director since 1985 and an officer from 1990-2007.
