Earned nine letters as 3-sport standout at Gary Froebel…All-City in basketball…member of track team that won state title twice and national championship once…all-state football player as a senior…starred at Western Michigan in football and track, co-captaining that team his senior year…spent 2 years working in Gary steel mills when teaching jobs were scarce, but then began a 38-year career in education…coached Gary Roosevelt to final four in 1965, losing to Fort Wayne North…3 years later won the whole show, defeating Vincennes and Shortridge to cap 22-5 season, with Jim Nelson winning the coveted Trester Award.
