2013 Women’s Center Circle Officials Award Winners Named

The Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame recognizes one woman and one man for their contribution as high school basketball officials as the 2013 Women-s Center Circle Officials Award winners.

Susan Dufrane of Griffith and Dave Emery of Macy will be acknowledged for their officiating careers.

Susan Dufrane worked numerous state tournament games, including two girls- state finals (1979, 1980).  She worked the 1979 semifinal game between Anderson Madison Heights and North Central with fellow 2013 Center Circle Official Dave Emery, and worked the 1980 semifinal game between eventual state champion Southport and Marion.  A member of the Calumet Officials Association, she served as assignment chairman for girls- basketball and volleyball.  She was a clinician for three years.  Dufrane was active in encouraging female athletes to give back to their sport by officiating and mentored officials including Shirley Dunn, Kim Yelich and Pam Dorsey.  Dufrane is a 1961 graduate of Hammond High School and has been involved in volunteer roles with March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, and Special Olympics, among other local organizations.  She resides in Griffith.

Dave Emery worked 12 boys sectionals, 19 girls sectionals, 18 girls regionals, four girls semi-states and three IHSAA girls basketball state finals (1979, 1980, 1990) in his career.  Emery worked the 1979 semifinal game between Anderson Madison Heights and North Central with fellow 2013 Center Circle Official Susan Dufrane, officiated Southport-s 1980 overtime state championship victory over Columbus East and the 1990 state championship game between Huntington North and Bedford North Lawrence.  A member of the North Central Officials Association, he served as President and Vice President of the association, was an instructor and worked four years as an IHSAA observer. 

Center Circle Officials Award winners will be honored at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame-s 12th Annual Women-s Banquet on Saturday, April 27, 2013.
