July 11, 2014

Ameriana Logo(NEW CASTLE) – The 24th Ameriana Hall of Fame Golf Classic, to benefit the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, will be played on Monday, July 21 at Pebble Brook Golf Club in Noblesville.

Teams of five golfers are paired with a Hall of Fame Ambassador and compete in the scramble event, which will begin at 12:30 P.M.

Involving nearly 200 participants, the event features Hall of Fame inductees and legendary names from sports franchises and colleges across the state. A post-round dinner and awards presentation will follow the event, at roughly 5:00 PM, including a speech from featured guest and Indiana basketball legend Bobby “Slick” Leonard.

Leonard, a 1950 graduate of Terre Haute Gerstmeyer High School, continued his basketball career at Indiana University where he was a two-time All-American, captain of IU’s 1953 national champions and captained two Big 10 championship teams. Following a seven-year NBA playing career, he was a successful coach, leading the Indiana Pacers to three ABA championships in a 12-year stint. He remains a color commentator for the Pacers’ radio network and will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in August. Reservations for the dinner and speech are available for $25 by calling the Hall at (765) 529-1891.

With Ameriana Bank’s continuous sponsorship, the outing has raised over $496,000 for the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. Revenue from this year’s event will surpass the $500,000 mark. Proceeds are used to fund operation of the 14,000 square foot museum in New Castle.

Title sponsor Ameriana Bank opened its doors in New Castle, Ind., in 1890. Today, Ameriana offices are located throughout Central Indiana, and each of them is fully committed to being a true community bank. Their name, Ameriana, serves as a constant reminder of this commitment.
